August 14-18 at McCormick Place

Background: The Parliament of the World’s Religions was created to cultivate harmony among the world’s religious and spiritual communities and to foster their engagement with the world and its guiding institutions in order to achieve a just, peaceful, and sustainable world. The 9th Convening of the Parliament takes place August 14 -18 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Among the major speakers this week will be Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. The theme of the 2023 Parliament is “A Call to Conscience: Defending Freedom and Human Rights.” The Archdiocese of Chicago has participated in Parliament gatherings since they began in 1893 when Chicago hosted the first World Parliament of Religions, the landmark birthplace of the modern interfaith movement.
