The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a powerful encounter with God’s mercy. In it, we turn our hearts back to God, acknowledge our sins, receive forgiveness through the ministry of the Church, and are restored to right relationship with God and one another. This sacrament offers healing, peace, and a fresh start in our journey of faith.
What are the times for Confession at Old St. Mary’s?
Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:30 PM. To schedule a confession outside this time, you may contact the priest on duty during regular parish office hours at 312-922-3444. You may email Fr. Rich or use Fr. Dan’s Calendly link to schedule.
It’s been a long time since my last confession and I’ve forgotten how. How much or what do I confess?
You don’t need to come to confession with a long list of every sin you’ve ever committed. What matters most is being honest with the priest—let him know it’s been a while, and share the sins that are weighing on your heart or affecting your relationship with God.
To prepare, take some time for an examination of conscience—a prayerful reflection on your thoughts, words, and actions in light of the Gospel and God’s love. Below are some resources that may help you prepare to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation.
