Committee for Social Concerns

MISSION AND PURPOSE 

The Committee for Social Concerns (CSC) coordinates all charity, advocacy, and justice activities supported by Old St. Mary’s. The committee will serve as a central clearing house for all proposed social concerns activities for both the Parish and the School, organizing them in ways to enhance the service-learning opportunities for participants of all ages.

This committee is just being formed in 2026!! We are currently looking for 6-8 volunteers to join the following staff representatives on the committee:
Andrew Ramker – Assistant Principal
Fr. Dan Macalinao – Associate Pastor

 

MEMBERSHIP AND TERMS

The Pastor shall appoint 6-8 volunteer members to serve alongside a representative from the Parish Pastoral Staff and the School Administrative Staff. They shall reflect the diversity of the Parish and School community and possess a passion for Catholic Social Teaching.

Members will serve three (3) year terms which can be renewed for an additional 3 years by mutual agreement of the Pastor and the appointee. Terms shall be staggered to ensure stability and new perspectives. No more than one-third of the board should turn over in a single year.  

Anyone interested in serving on the CSC should send a statement of interest to the pastor.

 

DUTIES OF MEMBERS

The Committee for Social Concerns will meet in-person month on a date and a time to be determined by the inaugural members. Members of the Committee should have the following gifts:

  • Attend Mass at Old St. Mary’s on a regular basis. There is no requirement that every CSC member be Catholic. 
  • Commit at least 5 hours per month outside of meeting time to assist with CSC-related activities. Less than 5 hours may be needed in any given month, depending on workflow. 
  • Contribute regularly to the financial needs of Old St. Mary’s and the CSC. 
  • Be generally available to volunteer for CSC and non-CSC related activities at Old St. Mary’s.
  • Attend CSC-led events, days of service, and related activities on a regular basis.
  • Proactively identify CSC-related areas of need and potential solutions.
