Committee for Social Concerns
Mission and purpose
The Committee for Social Concerns (CSC) coordinates the charity, advocacy, and justice activities supported by Old St. Mary’s. It serves as a central clearinghouse for proposed social-concerns activities for both the parish and school, organizing them to strengthen service-learning opportunities for participants of all ages.
Help form the committee
This committee is being formed in 2026. Old St. Mary’s is looking for six to eight volunteers to serve alongside Andrew Ramker, Assistant Principal, and Fr. Dan Macalinao, Associate Pastor.
Membership and terms
The Pastor appoints six to eight volunteer members to serve alongside representatives from the Parish Pastoral Staff and School Administrative Staff. Members should reflect the diversity of the parish and school community and possess a passion for Catholic Social Teaching.
Members serve three-year terms, renewable for an additional three years by mutual agreement of the Pastor and appointee. Terms are staggered to ensure stability and new perspectives, with no more than one-third of the committee turning over in a single year.
Duties of members
The committee will meet monthly on a schedule determined by its inaugural members. Members should be prepared to:
- Attend Mass at Old St. Mary’s regularly; not every member is required to be Catholic.
- Commit up to five hours per month outside meeting time to assist with committee activities.
- Contribute regularly to the financial needs of Old St. Mary’s and the committee.
- Be generally available to volunteer for parish activities.
- Attend committee-led events, days of service, and related activities.
- Proactively identify areas of need and potential solutions.
