Liturgical Ministries
THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE.
At Old St. Mary’s, liturgy is the work of the people. Many hands and hearts come together to create a beautiful, welcoming and prayerful celebration of the Eucharist.
There is no perfect volunteer. Bring a willing heart, explore the ministries below and take the next step when you are ready.
SERVE AT MASS
Share your gifts and help our community pray, listen, receive and belong.
Lectors
Proclaim Scripture and help the Word of God take root in our common life.
Eucharistic Ministers
Help share the Body and Blood of Christ with the assembled community.
Music Ministry
Help our community lift one voice in prayer through song and instrument.
Altar Servers
Assist the priest and deacon at Mass and help the liturgy unfold with reverence and care.
Ushers
Welcome worshippers, assist with seating, invite gift bearers and help receive the collection.
Sunday Sacristans
Prepare the sanctuary and the vessels needed for Sunday Masses and special Eucharistic celebrations.
OTHER LITURGICAL MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
Liturgy Committee
Consult with homilists and the music director, and help shape seasonal worship, decorations and the church environment.
Homebound Ministry
Bring the Eucharist and the presence of the parish to people who are homebound, in nursing homes or temporarily hospitalized.
Baptism Hospitality
Welcome families arriving for baptisms and help them prepare for the ritual before Mass.
Training and safeguarding: Some ministries require special formation and/or completion of Archdiocesan child- and youth-protection requirements. Ministry leaders will help you understand the next steps.
