THE HISTORY OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
The Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, commemorates when the Virgin Mary appeared four times to an indigenous man, Juan Diego, in 1531 in the hills of Tepeyac near Mexico City, asking for a church to be built in her honor.
Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe is expressed through prayers, novenas, and petitions, seeking her powerful intercession. Countless faithful turn to her as a source of comfort, hope, and spiritual guidance as the Mother of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
A DEVOTION THAT DRAWS US CLOSER
The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Juan Diego is a powerful reminder of God’s presence in our lives, as Mary leads us closer to her divine Son, Jesus. The miraculous events of 1531 continue to inspire, renew, and deepen the faith of millions, inviting all Catholics—and others of goodwill—to draw closer to the Mother of God, so that they can experience her maternal care and love.
May Our Lady of Guadalupe continue to guide and bless us on our spiritual journey.
