Advisory Boards at Old St. Mary’s

The Parish Pastoral Council are key partners with Fr. Rich in strategic planning. They also serve as the eyes and ears of the pastor, helping to discern the needs and desires of the larger community. They meet 7-9 pm on the 2nd Monday of the month, serving 3-year terms. We are looking for 3 members to join our 7 returning members. To make an effort to better represent the diversity of our community, we are especially looking for people who attend the 5 pm Saturday Mass, parents/guardians of students currently in Old St. Mary’s Catholic School, women, and people of color.

The Finance Council assures the community that the Parish and the School staff are being good stewards of all that has been entrusted to them. The Finance Council meets quarterly, often on the 3rd Tuesday of the month 6:30-8 pm. It would be a best practice for Finance Council members to serve 3-year terms, but we need to identify more people to serve in this capacity before we impose term limits. If you have expertise in financial planning and/or in communications about finances, please reach out to us. Even if you don’t feel that you can assist us in 2025-26, we’d love to expand our roster of experts that we can consult.

The Buildings & Grounds Committee was just formed in January. It meets quarterly, most likely on Thursdays at 9:30 am; term limits have not been established yet. They are a subcommittee of the Finance Council, making sure that we are good stewards of our resources. We could use additional assistance with computers and IT systems.

The School Advisory Board advises the Pastor and Principal on the management of Old St. Mary’s Catholic School. They currently meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month 4:30-6 pm. This coming year, we are seeking new members outside of the School community with expertise in a variety of fields within Catholic school education. Terms are currently 2 years, but we are considering expanding them to 3 years.

The Parent Advisory Team advises the Pastor and the Director of Lifelong Faith Formation on issues related to the formation of our children in both the School and Sunday Faith Formation programs. They meet online or hybrid on the 3rd Wednesday of the month 7-8 pm. This board was new in the past year, and we are considering establishing 2-year term limits for members.
